Customer feedback for Avira's security software solutions are mostly positive though Editors and consumers found minor problems with its products.
Amazon.com customers gives Avira Premium 3.5 stars out of 5. A customer who bought the software at Amazon.com praised Avira Premium:
"Avira's notifications are also less annoying and power consuming than other AVs out there. Its a very small and see through pop up, that can be turned off, noting you ONLY if there is an update. It won't pop up every few seconds or as you try to go around your daily business. The only time you will hear from this program is during updates (unless you turn off) and if you try to download or install something bad for your pc. The final piece I want to add is that it is very light weight. Because there are not fancy graphics flying around your screen every minute or two like Kaspersky and Norton, this AV is ridiculously fast and efficient. Their scanning engine scans for both virus and malware in a single swoop, so no need to run different scans. More than that, the PC is actually usable while the scans are running." - Sheff
CNet.com Editors like Avira Internet Security quick installation process but it found the software to perform slower than its competitors:
"CNET Labs' benchmarks found that Avira benchmarked slower than most competitors in most cases, with room for improvement across the board. Boot time was much slower than average, as were scan times, iTunes decoding, and two of the three Cinebench tests. The only test that all three versions of Avira 2013 did well on was shutdown time, where they added only 2 to 3 seconds to the unprotected computer's marks."
A customer from ConsumerReports.com is also impressed with Avira Internet Security:
"I purchased Avira a couple of days ago, after noticing slow performance from the McAfee security suite that came installed on my new Dell desktop, and reading the less than impressive results from CR testing. Avira installed quickly and was 98% pre-configured as I wanted. I have to say, Windows now seems to launch more quickly (less waiting for the 'busy' icon to go away, or the pop-up from McAfee that it was updating in the background in the meantime). Especially noted an improvement when installed on my Acer netbook. Just tonight Avira notified me that it had blocked a backdoor file attempting to gain outside access - I have to wonder how long that malware had been laying unnoticed. Definitely a new fan of Avira."
However, another customer from ConsumerReports.org report that "Avira appears to block the instalation and operation of these things that I want to use. I am glad it is looking out for my interests, but it should ask me what I want."
